GERMAN FOOTBALL MUSEUM - X-TEND AS TRANSPARENT AS A FOOTBALL NET

Fascinating World of Football

Long live the king - the king football. Like many monarchs, a museum was built for football. The German Football Museum has been in Dortmund since 2015. Here visitors and fans can touch, listen and watch the world of German football in all its diversity. Numerous emotional moments in German football history are celebrated.

In order to do justice to the status of football in this country, which lives from its dynamism and variety, an imposing structure was erected. Excellent as the best German goalkeepers, the X-TEND stainless steel cable network from CARL STAHL ARCHITEKTUR secures the large amount of transparent railings. It also supports the radiance of these components as design elements.

Decision was made after the summer fairy tale

The starting point for the German Football Museum was the 2006 summer fairy tale. The DFB took the World Cup in its own country as an impetus to start financing the museum with part of the profit. At that time, 14 cities applied. Cologne, Gelsenkirchen, Oberhausen and Dortmund made the shortlist. Dortmund was officially chosen because it is located in the densely populated North Rhine-Westphalia.

The German Football Association launched the architecture competition internationally. 24 well-known architecture firms applied. Unlike at the 2006 World Cup, there was more than one winner. The judges chose a triumvirate. This consisted of ...

  • HPP HentrichPetschnigg + Partner from Düsseldorf,
  • ARGE Petersen BWM Architects and Partners from Dortmund and
  • pmp Architects from Munich.

Not Munich or Dortmund, Düsseldorf won

In contrast to the Bundesliga, it was not Munich or Dortmund that ultimately won, but Düsseldorf. The HPP Hentrich-Petschnigg + Partner design was presented to the public in September 2011.

The winning architects used the X-TEND stainless steel cable mesh to secure the railings. This not only created a safe and secure visitor room for football fans of all ages, but also the look, based on a football goal net, has since offered a transparent and relaxed view of the exhibits.
