With the residence on Ernst-Reuter-Platz, high-quality living space has been created in the middle of Berlin. The building is characterized by its very central location - in close proximity to the Technical University and various large companies. This leads to short distances to work. In addition, the apartments are designed to be family-friendly, making them ideal for families with children. A total of 141 residential units with a size between 2 and 5 rooms were built here. Most of the building is used as living space, but some commercial space is also available.
The residence at Ernst-Reuter-Platz is characterized by an open and modern architecture. For a harmonious and balanced appearance, however, the architects did not choose rigid geometric shapes, but opted for a wave-shaped facade. A railing with a recess was therefore required for the balconies. For a wave-shaped railing, rigid materials are usually used, which can be attached exactly in the desired shape. For an open appearance, however, a filigree railing infill was desired, which hardly restricts the view.
In the "Ernst-Reuter Platz" project, the X-TEND stainless steel cable mesh with a rope diameter of only 1.5 mm has been installed. Due to the thin rope thickness, it hardly impairs the view from the balconies onto the beautiful panorama of the German capital. Nevertheless, it meets all safety standards and thus provides to an optimal fall protection.
A particular advantage of X-TEND is the high flexibility of this system. Thus, with appropriate processing, it is easy to adapt the tissue to different shapes, which is the optimal solution for an undulating railing such as that of the Ernst Reuter Residence.
For the modern residential facility, 700m² of stainless steel cable mesh with a mesh size of 30mm was installed, which ensures a light, flexible and transparent impression.
