Curved, flexible, secure - the X-TEND stainless steel mesh as railing infill

Railings with a swing

3pass's Cologne architects have designed and implemented the modern-looking archbishop's vocational college in their home town, artistically away from many clerical models. With its angular and cubic exterior, but with curved, almost graceful lines on the inside, the training centre for around 1,100 young people is open and elegant at the same time. The atrium, the light centre of the building, can be enjoyed from lofty heights from galleries on four floors. To ensure safety here, the architects have equipped these balconies with X-TEND CXE stainless steel mesh along the entire running surface.

Flexible knowledge transfer

Young people on each of the individual floors of the vocational college of the Archdiocese of Cologne are taught the knowledge that they will later be able to work in a great and socially relevant profession in the social and health care sector. With the same security that the X-TEND CXE stainless steel mesh gives the apprentices here on the individual floors, they will enrich the world with the knowledge they learn here.

The vocational college is the result of four schools - the Johann-Michael-Sailer-Institute, the Sachsenring, the Klosterstraße and the Am Krieler Dom. Since 2016, the merger of the four teaching institutes under the patronage of the church has also been on view in terms of construction.

Four floors of social professions

When standing in the foyer, one looks up four floors. The X-TEND stainless steel mesh fits perfectly into the internal structure so that the students can move freely on the undulating galleries.

However, we at CARL STAHL ARCHITECTURE do not only secure schools and students with our products. Our products are also used for ...

- Railing infills,

- Facades,

- Greenery,

- rope support systems,

- LED light designs and

- Zoo enclosures.

The benefits of using a stainless steel mesh such as the X-TEND CXE for railings are also that it can be flexibly adapted and allows people to have a transparent, unobstructed view of the overall structure of the building.
