House in Red

Calas de Guisando, Ávila (Spain)

This unique, Spanish Architecture Award-winning house is located in Calas de Guisando, Ávila, and is perpendicular to the San Juan reservoir. It offers privileged views and private access to the water on its eastern edge. Due to the high ecological value of the reservoir and the surrounding vegetation, a high degree of protection has been applied. Respect for the landscape, the natural topography and the existing vegetation are fundamental principles that have been taken into account in this project.

The house follows the natural topography and appears to float above the ground, creating a permeable and enriching relationship with the surroundings. The design respects the natural topography and the existing trees and harmonises with them.

The railing infills are designed to be highly modern and effective to match the building. X-TEND stainless steel cable mesh ensures a safe environment and fits perfectly with the aesthetically pleasing house. Stainless steel cable mesh with a mesh width of 60 mm and a cable diameter of 1.5 mm was used for the railing infills. The low rope thickness guarantees transparency and openness on the building, allowing for safe and breathtaking views.
