X-TEND SECURITY NETWORK IN THE BAQUEDANO SUBWAY STATION

Safety first in Santiago de Chile

Santiago de Chile is one of the most beautiful cities in South America. The residents are used to quickly rebuilding the splendor of their unique city in difficult times. In the past, devastating earthquakes destroyed the battered city. The residents remained steadfast and rebuilt everything even more splendidly.

A joint project by RGM Arquitectura and CARL STAHL ARCHITEKTUR proves that the Chileans cannot be beaten even in times of the Covid 19 crisis. Area 4 of the famous Baquedano metro station in Santiago de Chile was completed in April 2020. For the safety of the passengers, a 77 m² X-TEND stainless steel cable network was stretched in the station.

PERFECTLY INTERLOCKED ENGINEERING

The metro station is part of the transport network in Santiago de Chile that connects the individual quarters of the city as a lifeline. The X-TEND stainless steel cable network was fastened with the I-SYS stainless steel cable system. The people in charge of the Metro thanked both the architecture firm RGM Arquitectura and CARL STAHL ARCHITEKTUR for the successful work. In particular, the engineers were praised for reconciling the right construction measures with the appropriate safety measures in times of a global crisis.

The X-TEND stainless steel rope net was installed in place for two reasons. On the one hand, it serves as fall protection on the high running paths above the tracks, and on the other hand, as object protection.

Preventive security measures take effect

Prevention was particularly important during the planning and construction work. From the ranks of the Chilean administration, it was particularly mentioned that despite all the local difficulties and Covid 19 challenges, RGM and CARL STAHL ARCHITECTURE helped to advance national industry.

Chile's economy is currently based on ...

  • agriculture
  • mining (especially copper),
  • industry
  • fruit growing .

The work on the metro in Chile's capital was also a challenge, as protests against the lockdown and parts of the government repeatedly occurred during the construction work in the city.

What was particularly important about the coordination of the construction work was that regular operation was only minimally restricted, taking into account the necessary safety measures. One reason for this was that the Baquedano station is one of the most frequented in the Chilean capital.
