Werneck Castle, situated between Würzburg and Schweinfurt, is the former summer residence of the Bishops of Würzburg, who had it built in the eighteenth century by Balthasar Neumann, one of the greatest architects of the Baroque and Rococo eras. Today, it houses a psychiatric hospital. A tubular X-TEND structure in the stairwell, reminiscent of a fishnet stocking, offers fall protection. The stainless steel mesh also serves as a reflective surface for lighting installations.
