New enclosure for snow leopards in the Wilhelma

Awesome I-SYS & X-TEND project in the state capital

Snow leopards are among the most majestic animals on earth. A safe, natural-looking living space was recently created in the Stuttgart Wilhelma. Including the trees, five inner pylons and 13 edge supports support the flexible roof mesh. In order to achieve maximum quality here, those responsible for the zoo and construction used the X-TEND stainless steel rope mesh together with the I-SYS stainless steel wire rope from CARL STAHL ARCHITEKTUR.

The enclosure of the wonderful big cats lies on a slope. This architectural challenge was met with various additional components. The X-TEND meshsystem is both very transparent and impenetrable so that visitors to the Wilhelma always have a good view of the snow leopards but still cannot enter the habitat of the sensitive big cats.

1.6 million euros for the well-being of the snow leopards

"A park to fall in love with" - that is the motto of the Wilhelma in Stuttgart. And according to this motto, visitors fell in love with Ladakh and Kailash, two of the indescribably beautiful snow leopards. Today the snow leopard enclosure is one of the zoos with the highest viewing value. The fact that the transparency is so high thanks to the X-TEND stainless steel rope network makes watching the leopards an unforgettable experience.

Edith Sitzmann, Minister of Finance of the State of Baden-Württemberg, was also impressed by the architectural and animal elegance on March 26, 2018. That day was the opening of the snow leopard enclosure. The entire enclosure cost the state company Wilhelma and the associated support association around 1.6 million euros. The association alone raised the sum of 300,000 euros.

After the snow leopard is before the elephants

The association currently has more than 34,000 members - and the number is growing. The Stuttgart apparently love their zoo. In addition to the lordly looking snow leopards, children and adults in the Wilhelma can also ...

After the enclosure of the snow leopards was such a great success in terms of architecture, security technology and species conservation, the responsible people are now planning the next, in the truest sense, gigantic project - the world of elephants.
