X-TEND safety mesh in Martinskirche

Modern architecture in a backdrop

For more than 1,000 years there have been fundamental records that in what is now the Rhineland-Palatinate spa town of Bad Ems, a sacred building adorns the settlement. The building in its basic form is a pillar basilica. According to historians, it was built in this architectural variant in the third quarter of the 12th century. At that time, the building was to be the direct successor of the Niederlahnstein church.

Much later, sources report from the 19th century, Bad Ems was the summer residence for a large number of European rulers and artists. Much was changed at that time and today's St. Martin Church was built. The Protestant community is currently using the building. Those responsible stretched the X-TEND stainless steel cable mesh from CARL STAHL ARC along the inner church parapet. This created a very attractive combination of timeless stainless steel and the historical building fabric.

A health resort with many sights

The X-TEND stainless steel cable mesh was not only chosen as fall protection for the parapet. The high transparency of the 60 millimeter mesh allows the faithful to easily recognize the preacher through the secure parapet network. A total of 25 m² of the X-TEND by CARL STAHL ARCHITEKTUR were used.

The around 10,000 inhabitants of Bad Ems and the numerous visitors every year can admire other sights in addition to the Martinskirche. The most popular are…

Bad Ems and its famous guests

The health resort was and is a magnet for the social who's who. In addition to Tsar Alexander II, the important composer Richard Wagner recovered in Bad Ems. The kings of Saxony, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Bavaria, Prussia and Württemberg came here for their summer retreat. Viktor Hugo, author of such literary masterpieces as “The Hunchback of Notre-Dame” or “Les Misérables” was also a guest in 1865.
