Architectural masterpiece on the Kronplatz

Kronplatz is a 2,275-metre-high mountain in South Tyrol on the edge of the Dolomites. In winter it is the No. 1 ski mountain and in summer a popular destination for families, hikers and bikers. The new Ropeway Olang 1+2 went into operation in winter 2020, just in time for the start of the season.

Special architecture made in Germany

The leading Hamburg studio Schlotthauer Matthiessen chose a striking roof consisting of a transparent foil skin. Our client Temme // Obermeier contributed to the wave-shaped roof and erected a roof structure that was created independently of the actual building. This allows the building to oscillate freely with the vibrations caused by nature and technology. The dome-like and transparent roof made of ETFE foil skin ensures sufficient incidence of light - without glare.

I-SYS stainless steel cable rope - the all-rounder for safety

Stainless steel cable ropes are among the most versatile elements in architecture. With I-SYS, almost all conceivable solutions can be realised. Here in the case of Olang, the particular challenge was to support the masses of snow on the roof. This is where Carl Stahl ARC from Süßen came into play. A good decision. The 3,000 I-SYS ropes with a diameter of 8 millimetres were delivered on time and give the roof the necessary support without blocking the view. An architectural masterpiece Made in Germany.

I-SYS has a production control that is externally monitored by the KIT, as well as a European Technical Assessment (ETA) from the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt) for selected products. This makes it easier for builders and planners to implement their I-SYS project, as it speeds up approval procedures, reduces costs and offers greater planning and implementation security.
