Secure underground parking

Modern parking garages thrive on the good, light-flooded overview. Everyone who parks here can feel safe here. So that no unnecessarily thick walls interrupt the high brightness, modern car park architects use the X-TEND stainless steel cable network from CARL STAHL ARC again and again. The people responsible for the deepest underground car park in the Netherlands also work according to this principle - in the Lammermarkt underground car park in Leiden.

For the city, which today has around 125,000 inhabitants, it is important to bring parking traffic from the street into the underworld. This is also because the space for environmentally friendly cyclists should not be blocked by parked cars. In any case, the Netherlands is an ecological pioneer here.

Despite the canals, a sensible underground car park

The Lammermarkt underground car park is located in Leiden, a town in the province of South Holland. Knowledge also goes deep here - Leiden is the oldest university in the Netherlands. Leiden is known for its canals. Like many cities in Holland, these often navigable canals run through the canyons of houses. The main building of the university is located on the most famous canal in Holland, the Rapenburg. The building was originally a monastery church.

In order not to visually interrupt the many sights of the city, the people of Leiden also like to build in depth. During the construction of the Lammermarkt underground car park, both the X-TEND stainless steel cable network and the I-SYS program from CARL STAHL ARCHITEKTUR used for this show that both can adapt to any architectural challenge.

X-TEND is particularly translucent

When it came to civil engineering and the simultaneous flooding of light, the builders of the underground car park enjoyed three-dimensional freedom. This enables the round room to be securely secured without having to cast round parts. A total of 700 m² of the X-TEND stainless steel cable network spans the entire height of the underground car park.

Instead of a low, the Leideners have been experiencing a cultural high for years. Visitors can visit the birthplace of the painter Rembrandt ...
