I-SYS fall protection in Eestairs Headquarter

Stairway to heaven

Elegance meets function at the new head office of the international staircase manufacturer EeStairs in the Dutch town of Barneveld. The modern industrial building unites production and administration in one place and has been highly acclaimed for its outstanding sustainability. An impressive external spiral staircase with vertically tensioned I-SYS stainless steel cables by Carl Stahl Architecture welcomes the visitors. It is an expression of the design creativity of  EeStairs – and the almost infinite versatility of the stainless steel cable system at the same time.

For 20 years now, EeStairs has been designing and realizing exceptional staircases for private and commercial customers. These include global players from Silicon Valley as well as renowned museums and lovers of special architecture all over the world. With surprising designs and high-quality materials, EeStairs combines form and function in a unique way. This successful combination is reflected in the new head office of the staircase manufacturer.

Bronsvoort Blaak Architects created a modern and architecturally sophisticated corporate headquarters for EeStairs, which houses both production facilities and offices under one roof. The inserted, slightly sloping roof is also the most striking design feature of the three-story building. Extending over 4,800 square meters, it offers plenty of space for creativity, tailor-made solutions and precise manufacturing. Both architects and clients paid particular attention to the sustainability of the new building. Through special insulation, the use of solar thermal collectors and other resource-saving measures, the EeStairs main office achieved an “outstanding” BREEAM rating.

Filigree cable balustrade

Supported by concrete columns, the main entrance with the adjoining administration wing "floats" six meters above the ground. Visitors arrive here via a sculptural spiral staircase, which rises in an elegant sweep to the outside terrace in front. One hundred and fifty vertically tensioned I-SYS stainless steel cables by Carl Stahl Architecture provide protection when going up and down the stairs. In different lengths of one to five meters, they follow the geometry of the staircase and, with a cable diameter of just four millimeters, appear filigree and visually reserved. In this way, I-SYS leaves the show to the impressive external staircase and at the same time offers the necessary protection as stable balustrade infill.

I-SYS: Stainless steel cable system with unlimited possibilities

I-SYS transforms ideas into reality. The stainless steel cable system from Carl Stahl Architecture realizes the most diverse forms and functions for modern architecture - both indoors and outdoors. Because hardly any other building component is so versatile and universal in use. Whether filigree railing infill, resilient cable suspension, fall protection, bracing or wind bracing, whether artistic object staging or trellis structures for façade greening – with I-SYS, individual, aesthetic solutions are created using stainless steel cables. Functional and stable, durable and decorative. Thanks to the combination with connections, joints and rails, stainless steel cables become universal components. They have to be sturdy to withstand the influential forces and at the same time fit in harmoniously with the overall impression of the architecture. A balancing act that I-SYS masters with ease. The material allows economic solutions - durable, robust, low-maintenance and easy to clean.

The fields of application of I-SYS are versatile. The stainless steel cables adorn bridges, squares, balustrades and façades, delimit uses from each other and mark structures in public space. The I-SYS stainless steel cable system for balustrades enables individual shapes and solutions for the design of gaps on railings, balustrades and bridges. Formally reduced and filigree in appearance, the stainless steel balustrade cables are a securing design element.
