Award winning school architecture
Katharinenschule Elementary School guarantees all-day schooling in the centre of Hamburg’s HafenCity district. One particularly notable feature of the concept, for which local architects Spengler Wiescholek were responsible, is that the schoolyard has been laid out on the roof. A 4 metre high fall protection system comprised of X-TEND and I-SYS components keeps the children safely in check. The planners have received a number of awards for the building’s unusual design, including the German Urban Development Prize.
