CREATIVE CABLE AND MESH SOLUTIONS
In the heart of Mumbai, locals and tourists alike will find Jijamata Udyan, commonly known as the Byculla Zoo. Around 100 different bird species live here on around 1,700 m². The X-TEND stainless steel rope mesh is stretched here so that the wonderful and for us mostly very exotic birds can be admired but not touched by the thousands upon thousands of visitors.
On an area of around 3,000 m², the X-TEND from CARL STAHL ARC safeguards the birds' living environment as a huge aviary. The high-quality stainless steel mesh is stretched over five sturdy round arches with a tension and yet flexible springiness. It reaches a height of 13.5 meters. So the many birds are able, depending on their size, to go on sometimes extensive excursions.
Mumbai is a city of extreme sizes. Around 12.5 million people live in the direct city area alone. And the number continues to grow. If you add the suburb of the metropolis, an incredible 28.4 million people live there. With such proportions it is clear that there is a tendency towards a certain gigantism in architecture too.
A good example of this is the aviary at Byculla Zoo, which many also call Mumbai Zoo for the sake of simplicity. The volume of the enclosure secured by the X-TEND is so large that most birds can fly freely without problems. The properties of the X-TEND offer the animals another advantage. Thanks to the mesh held by the I-SYS stainless steel wire rope, you don't need any supports in the aviary itself, which could be dangerous for the birds when flying.
The gardens also provide relaxation for the millions of inhabitants of Mumbai, as Bombay has been officially called since 1996. Here the eyes can close ...
… see enough.
