A solar-active shade sail forms the center of the African Union's new Peace and Security Building in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The combination of flexible organic solar modules from BELECTRIC OPV GmbH and a stainless steel cable structure from Carl Stahl enabled a solar project of this size to be realized for the first time. "This project shows once again the diverse possibilities in the areas of design, transparency, flexibility and color, which can be fully exploited and implemented by the solar modules of the BELECTRIC OPV. Thanks to the innovative stainless steel cable mesh products from Carl Stahl, even architectural elements of this size appear light and seem to float, ”says Hermann Issa, Director Business Development and Sales at BELECTRIC OPV. “Despite the extreme complexity of the project, the installation was easy to do. Installation scaffolding or lifting platforms, which are normally used for the installation of building parts of this size, were not necessary for this project. This is thanks to the extremely light OPV membranes, which made construction and installation quick and uncomplicated, ”adds Luca Casati, chief fitter at Carl Stahl and assembly manager in Addis Ababa. "Being able to assemble a system of this size in just 5 days and mainly with local forces shows the incredible potential in the combination of OPV and steel cable structures."
